New Programs
The Floral Park Recreation Center is in full spring mode and the department of recreation is ready for the 2016 summer season. A variety of programs have been planned for residents of all ages and interests. The eight-week All Day Pool Program will again be offered for children ages 5 to 10. Also planned for girls and boys is children’s gardening, cartooning, jazz/hip hop dance and the new Jedi Bootcamp for kids.
For adult Village of Floral Park residents looking to get in good shape for the summer season, indoor Slimnastics, yoga, Zumba and bootcamp classes will be offered. Consult the Floral Park Recreation/Pool booklet for program descriptions, start dates and fees. Registration for all of the above programs will take place on Wednesday evening, May 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the pool and recreation building. Applications for the mentioned programs are available at the pool building and park Shelterhouse.
Tennis Anyone?
The har-tru tennis courts are now seeing full-day play. The recreation center’s opening day tournament will take place on Saturday, May 14. Players who wish to enjoy the first mini-tournament of the season will have a full morning of play, mixed, “A” and “B” doubles action.
The tournament fee is $5 and includes bagels, coffee or juice. All players must have new 2016-17 VFP Leisure Pass or the 2015 resident pool pass. Sign-in is at 8 a.m. by the tennis courts and play begins by 8:30 a.m. Rain date is the following day—Sunday. In addition to tournament play, tennis lessons have begun during the week. Individual and group instructions, drills and doubles play have enabled all to improve their skill levels. With har-tru tennis courts needing daily watering, maintenance takes place Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 1:30 p.m.
