An 85-year-old woman died after the car she was a passenger in was involved in a crash in her hometown of Lindenhurst over the weekend.
Suffolk County police said that Marie Novak was riding with Mary Mazur, 86, who was driving a Hyundai Elantra that was heading westbound on 47th Street when the car collided with a northbound Pontiac Firebird at the corner of Straight Path at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Novak was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was pronounced dead. Mazur and the other driver were treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries at the same hospital.
First Squad detectives impounded both vehicles and are continuing the investigation but neither driver was charged.
