Pat O”Brien Named Senior Of The Year

Patricia O’Brien was honored at the 42nd Annual Nassau County Luncheon/Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Uniondale. NeighborNews_060116AO’Brien was selected from numerous nominees and County Executive Edward Mangano and others honored her as the 2016 Senior Woman of the Year.
The award noted that O’Brien has been the very foundation of endless veteran projects. She teaches the Manhasset community what service to God and country truly means. She tirelessly supports the Manhasset community and is dedicated to children. She ensures that the next generation understands, supports and continues to uphold the value of service that is seldom seen in communities anymore. O’Brien’s teaching background provides her the patience, knowledge and kindness that’s essential when encouraging children to become engaged in a cause. Each person dedicating time or donations under O’Brien’s guidance is made to understand that they truly helped make a difference in someone’s life. Hundreds of Nassau community members have been inspired by her selfless dedication.
Promoting youth involvement with the veteran collections promotes patriotism, teaches service, supports and strengthens the community. Packages and letters are a small part of what she does for the deployed service men and women as well as discharged veterans. She is the conduit between Manhasset and veterans. Her selflessness is shown by her attending every ceremony, supporting every drive. O’Brien
does not seek praise; she highlights the community members instead.
O’Brien’s thoughts on volunteering is “Just do it.” Her philosophy indicates each individual has been blessed with gifts and talents that should be shared. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that many lives have been improved by volunteer actions. The power of a single positive individual can be tremendous, but when that is multiplied by a like-minded group, the results can be far-reaching.
