Sewanhaka High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter recently joined more than 8,500 student leaders, members and advisers for the FCCLA National Leadership Conference at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA.
The national leadership conferences are a chance for FCCLA members from across the country to gather and network with fellow members, attend FCCLA program workshops, leadership sessions, visit college exhibits and explore career pathways as well as compete in Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events. The theme of this year’s conference was “Empowered,” which inspired attendees to make the right choices and commit themselves to making a positive impact within their families, schools, FCCLA and communities.
Three of Sewanhaka’s chapter members participated in two of 30 family and consumer sciences—related competitive events offered at the conference, including STAR.
Two others, who are enrolled in the leadership academy, are currently preparing to become New York State officers next year. Involvement in FCCLA’s competitive events programs offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life necessary in families, communities and workplaces learning to become college and career ready. Sewanhaka’s chapter members earned two silver medals and one bronze.
