The Massapequa School District is proud to announce that Massapequa High School has been named one of America’s Top 500 Public High Schools in annual rankings recently released by Newsweek magazine. The school ranked 401st in the nation, and was one of 21 on Long Island to be included on the list.
Schools were ranked based on achievement and college readiness factors including the percentage of students enrolling in a college, a weighted SAT/ACT composite score, Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate performance, student enrollment rates and the ratio of students to full-time guidance counselors.
Massapequa was cited for its 99.2 percent graduation rate, along with having 93 percent of graduates attending college.
“We are pleased to be recognized by Newsweek as one of the best high schools in America and one of 21 on Long Island,” said Superintendent Lucille Iconis. “This national recognition reflects the commitment of our entire K-12 faculty, staff and administration, the support of parents, the board of education and the community, as well as a willingness on the part of students to work hard and to challenge themselves academically.”
Massapequa High School serves approximately 2,300 students between the main building and the Ames campus for ninth-graders. It offers a vast and challenging curriculum with 22 AP courses and 30 additional courses that may be taken for college credit, as well as six world languages and dozens of electives in art, music, business, technology and family and consumer sciences.
