Nineteen Scouts from Troop 10 of Great Neck participated in the District Camporee, attended by Boy Scout troops from northeastern Nassau County. The focus of the weekend was automotive safety, automotive mechanics and other car-related information.
They were treated to a demonstration of rescue methods by the Wading River Fire Department, where the Scouts watched as they dismantled an old Mercedes SL with the help of the Jaws of Life.
The Scouts arrived at their site on Friday night and cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday. They also participated in a camp-wide campfire as the Scouts put on skits and told stories under a night sky filled with stars. Sunday morning dawned cold but sunny, as the Scouts swiftly cooked breakfast and struck camp.
