Motorists are advised that the right lane of eastbound Northern State Parkway (NSP) is being closed during mid day, off-peak hours between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a short distance between exits 35 and 36, east of the NSP entrance ramp from the eastbound Long Island Expressway (LIE/I-495), in Jericho in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. There are also brief intermittent closures of travel lanes on this ramp during the same time period. Following completion of the eastbound NSP work, a single travel lane will be closed on westbound NSP in the same vicinity between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. These closures are needed for the installation of the infrared over-height vehicle detection system to prevent commercial trucks from entering the Parkway and striking low bridges that were built in the 1930s and 1940s. Work necessitating these lane closures is expected to be completed on Thursday, September 1, 2016.
Drivers are being warned in advance of the closings via INFORM overhead as well as roadside electronic road signs and should take an alternate route to avoid delays. Emergency service providers and the Town of Oyster Bay have been notified about this NSP ramp closure. These closures are weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed or prolonged due to inclement weather.
