The 13th annual LI2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer took place this summer. As a result of everyone’s hard work, the Manhasset Woman’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer (MWCABC), 13 other breast cancer beneficiaries and four grant recipients have received a combined $335,000.

The LI2Day event supports breast cancer research and essential outreach services and educational programs for women and their families affected by breast cancer on Long Island. One hundred percent of what is raised stays on Long Island.

The MWCABC is grateful to the LI2Day organization for providing crucial funding for its outreach program. This year the program received $23,600, bringing the total received by the outreach program to $323,300 since 2005. The MWCABC grant allows the coalition to assist the women in the Manhasset area who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as support prevention, wellness and educational programs. The coalition couldn’t do this work without them.

In 2015, outreach served 93 breast cancer cases, delivered over 110 meals, provided transportation, wigs, financial support, household help and wellness services such as massage and acupuncture. The outreach program is on the front lines providing help to the women in need, here and now.

The MWCABC thanks the 2016 LI2Day team of walkers: Mark Sauvigne, Linda Haase Kane (virtual walker), Sabine Hairabedian, Blanche Fung Liu, Monique Koch, Judith A. Taylor, Constance Parsons, Christine Roberts, Katrien Carbonez, Debbie Arenare, Caroline Kenlon, Laura Dilimetin, Aline Kassabian, Karen Barnes, Susana Alcaraz, Patty Rohn, Annie Vetrone (virtual walker), Tammy Terenzi, Tammy Kelly (virtual walker) and Tammy Psyllos. The Junior Coalition of the MWCABC also lent their support and cheerful spirit by organizing and manning a rest stop/water station for the walkers that day.

Anyone interested in being a part of this amazing one-day journey next year should mark the calendar for June 10, 2017. Prospective walkers can contact Linda Kane for information at lindahaasekane@me.com, or Monique Koch at mmkoch1130@gmail.com. Come on and join the MWCABC team.
