Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, County Legislator Steve Rhoads and Senator Michael Venditto announced that Wantagh Park will undergo major improvements including new athletic fields, a new mini-golf course, picnic pavilions, lighthouse, dog run, fishing pavilion, renovated and expanded administration/marine club, and new restrooms.
“My administration is committed to improving the quality of life and recreational opportunities for our residents,” said Mangano. “Wantagh Park has been an integral part of Nassau County for decades and this historic park is a recreational centerpiece of the South Shore community. These improvements will give the park a complete restoration and I am excited to see residents enjoy the new and improved amenities that Wantagh Park has to offer.”
Improvements to Wantagh Park will include four new turf synthetic athletic fields; 10 new picnic pavilions; a renovated and expanded administration building/marine club; a dog run; fishing pavilion and restrooms near the playground area. The park’s recently completed projects include a new 18-hole nautical themed mini-golf course and a new lighthouse near the marina. The four new turf synthetic athletic fields were funded through the county’s capital plan and $450,000 provided by Venditto.
