Here’s wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.
The Beautification Committee, led by Deputy Mayor Pat Christiansen, sends special thanks to all the volunteers and junior firefighters for helping our village fill the streets with holiday cheer this season.
Stop by Village Hall to drop off an unwrapped toy/gift for the Marine Toys for Tots collection.
“Think Globally and Shop Locally”: Farmingdale Village had one of the busiest Black Fridays in history. Please consider shopping and dining locally during the holiday season and throughout the year. Plus, many merchants offer holiday season specials.
The village welcomes many new merchants this year. Take a stroll down Main Street and beyond, and check out Candy’s Jewelers, Mind Over Shatter, Fantastic Day Spa, Starbucks, Farmingdale Green Dry Cleaners, Lithology Brewing Co., ChopStick, Hi Dental, Souporhero, Kushner Dermatology, Vespa Italian Kitchen & Bar, and That Meetball Place. Plus, Croxley Ales has added The Garden at Croxley Ales, for parties and more, with a retractable roof.
Parking: Just so everyone knows, there is parking available.
- Permit-only parking ends at 4 p.m. in all village lots with plenty of free parking for the holiday season.
- Also, anyone can utilize parking at the Farmingdale Long Island Rail Road station for free Monday-Friday from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday. There are typically numerous spots available on Saturdays and Sundays.
- An additional parking lot, open to all, is set to open soon, north of the LIRR tracks on Main Street next to Farmingdale Music Center.
Holiday Lights: Main Street has garland lighting, lighted wreaths, and gorgeous new festive white lights on trees along Main Street. The Gazebo has holiday lights and lighted tress and, of course, the new Blue Spruce Tri-Centennial tree is adorned in LED lights. There are lighted candy canes along Route 109-Fulton Street. Remember to take advantage of Main Street for your holiday needs, shopping, dining and holiday celebrations.
Out And About: Recent holiday festivities included the Halloween Parade with Fun on the Green, pony rides and feeding the animals (fantastic family event); the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade and visit with Santa; St. Luke’s Tree Lighting; and the Tri-Centennial Tree Lighting. Other tree lightings include the Starbucks Tree Lighting on Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. and the Gerngras Park Tree Lighting on Dec.9.
Gingerbread And Chocolate: On Saturday, Dec. 10, check out the fourth annual Gingerbread and Chocolate House Contest at The Chocolate Duck store. Please stop in, see the gorgeous creations at the competition from noon-5 p.m., and vote for the People’s Choice award. Long Island Cares will be at The Chocolate Duck collecting donations that day to help feed the hungry. Bring non-perishable food donations or other donations such as gift cards.
Coming Up: Look out for more holiday traditions throughout the village, including Santa and the Farmingdale Fire Department riding throughout town spreading holiday cheer on Dec. 10-11; and Santa will be coming to town for brunch on Sunday, Dec. 18, at Caracara Mexican Grill and the Library Café, and possibly other venues (dates TBD).
Holiday Tips from the Mayor:
- Never leave packages in the car
- Don’t overload the holiday lights (like Chevy Chase)
- Discard old extension cords and lights
- Keep watering live trees
- Go Green – switch to LED lighting
- Keep your pets away from the trees and gifts
- Designate a driver if drinking
- Cut those holiday calories by walking—bring along a friend and family.
Winter’s Coming: As the weather gets colder, we would like to remind residents that if snow accumulation is over two inches, there will be plowing—o please remove cars from the street throughout the village. Vehicles can be parked on lawns and driveways, but don’t block the sidewalks. Check the village website for important updates, www.farmingdalevillage.com and you can also sign up for email notifications on the website as well.
Thank you to all those working to make our community a great place to live, work and play, and a Long Island destination: all residents, merchants, all legislators and local politicians, the Farmingdale Village Merchants Association, Cultural Arts Committee, Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Macaroni Kid, the Historical Society, Vision Long island, real estate developers, all event sponsors and others.
Plus, special thanks to all Farmingdale Village staff, firefighters, police, EMTs, auxiliary police, veterans, Farmingdale School District and Library, private schools, churches, Farmingdale State College, the Farmingdale Fabulous Moms, Marketing Masters NY, promoters, media, our vendors and the Farmingdale Observer.
