Andrew Sweeney stepped into the starting point guard role with a teammate side
lined and dished out seven assists and fellow junior Kyle Acquavella produced a career-high-matching 17 points as the MacArthur boys basketball team beat Long Beach, 57-48, on Dec. 23.
The Generals dug out of an early 10-point deficit to improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league play. MacArthur is now 9-1 against Long Beach during Eric Rubin’s 11-year tenure as head coach.
Junior forward Mike Manfredo contributed 10 points and had four blocks in the victory. Making his first career varsity start, eighth grader Angelo Andino scored eight points and had four offensive rebounds and two steals. Junior guard Jack Leogrande had nine points and five offensive rebounds.
Several former MacArthur players were on hand to witness the victory, including Andrew Seniuk, Dean Peluso and Ryan Cunningham. Seniuk is averaging 10.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as a senior at New Paltz.
MacArthur returns home to face Herricks on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
