A Long Island Rail Road train struck a car that was on the tracks at a crossing, killing the driver in Brentwood on Monday evening, authorities said.
A westbound train with no passengers aboard hit the vehicle at the 4th Avenue crossing west of the Brentwood station at 8 p.m., officials said. The victim was driving alone at the time. The driver’s identity was not immediately available.
LIRR service was suspended on the Ronkonkoma Branch during the Monday evening rush hour commute while MTA police, Suffolk County police and LIRR officials were on the scene investigating the incident. Service was restored later in the evening.
No crew members were injured in the crash.
