Stand with Planned Parenthood: A conversation with JoAnn D. Smith, the President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Nassau County on January 22
Marking the anniversary of Roe V Wade, JoAnn Smith, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) will talk about this landmark Supreme Court decision and what lies ahead on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society of LI in Garden City. She will discuss the 2016 election and the new leaders in Congress—politicians who have spent years trying to ban safe and legal abortion and defund Planned Parenthood health centers. Now, they have the power to make their agenda a reality.
“This is the most dangerous threat we have ever faced and we are in the fight of our lives. There is uncertainty ahead of us and we are already facing renewed attacks—like repealing the Affordable Care Act, appointing an anti-abortion justice on the Supreme Court, and introducing legislation that dismantles rights and protections for women, immigrants, LGBTQ people, religious minorities, and people of color,” says Smith. “Make no mistake: we will fight tirelessly. We will never back down and our doors will stay open. No matter what.”
JoAnn D. Smith has been at the helm of Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) as President & CEO since 2005. In this position, she is responsible for fulfilling the agency’s mission of providing quality, affordable healthcare and information to the people in her community, as well as the leadership for advocacy efforts to preserve reproductive rights.
