An alleged hit-and-run driver was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash that left a 41-year-old man dead in Brentwood over the weekend, Suffolk County police said.
Cesar Velasquez, 54, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Major Case Unit detectives alleged the suspect was driving an SUV southbound on Washington Avenue when he struck Jose Reinerio Salinas at the corner of Rutledge Street at 11:20 p.m. Friday.
The victim was then hit by a Ford Expedition that stayed at the scene, police said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both the suspect and the victim are from Brentwood.
Velasquez was arrested Saturday. A judge set his bail at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. He is due back in Suffolk County court Friday.
