A Riverhead man was arrested for allegedly setting his 33-year-old girlfriend on fire while she slept in a tent in the woods on Wednesday night, Riverhead Town Police said.
Ryan Osborne was charged with assault and arson for the attack on the victim, with whom he had a domestic relationship.
Police said Osborn poured an unknown accelerant onto the woman’s body and the tent she was sleeping in near Forge Road and ignited it at 9 p.m.
The victim, who extinguished the flames on her body, suffered burns to her lower extremities, face and hands. She was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and later transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. Her name was not released.
The fire extended to the wooded area. Riverhead Fire Department firefighters extinguished the brush fire.
