A U.S. Coast Guard officer was arrested for allegedly breaking into a Montauk home and assaulting a 67-year-old woman in her bed over the weekend, East Hampton Town Police said.
Matthew Patrick McGee was charged with first-degree burglary, assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and resisting arrest.
Police said the 22-year-old officer was apprehended in the home at 11:45 p.m. Saturday. The victim was treated for her injuries at Southampton Hospital.
McGee was based at Coast Guard Station Montauk. The Coast Guard is cooperating with the investigation.
