A 50-year-old Smithtown man was sentenced Tuesday to 60 years in federal prison for paying a Ukrainian woman to produce custom-made child pornography that victimized a 2-year-old girl five years ago.

Joseph Valerio was convicted of production, transportation, receipt and possession of child pornography at Central Islip federal court.

“These children can’t fight off their attackers because the abuse is at the hands of adults who are supposed to be feeding, clothing and sheltering them from the evil in the world,” said William F. Sweeney, Jr., assistant director-in-charge of the FBI’s New York office. “No child should ever have to endure this sort of pain, humiliation and abuse.”

Authorities said Valerio scripted the child porn and bought 30 videos from the woman between April and November 2012.

Federal agents and Suffolk County police found the videos on his computer after they executed a search warrant at his home in 2014, after investigators uncovered the conspiracy, authorities said.

During the search, police found hidden cameras, a stage and computers that revealed Valerio had produced child pornography in the basement of his house involving a 6-year-old Long Island girl in 2010, authorities said.

Judge Joseph Bianco also ordered Valerio, who has been incarcerated since his arrest, to serve a lifetime term of supervised release after his prison sentence. Valerio will be additionally be required to register as a sex offender.
