Baskin-Robbins has a storied history that dates back to the first shop being opened in Glendale, CA, back in 1945. Twenty-two years later, the company served up its first ice cream sundae in New York after throwing its doors open in Garden City. To commemorate this significant milestone, Trojan alumni who graduated in 1967 and worked at this particular Baskin-Robbins returned to put their ice cream scooping skills to the test 50 years later. Trustee John Delany was on hand to present crew members with the “Pink Spoon to the City,” while Baskin-Robbins donated $1,000 to Garden City High School in honor of those original crew members. These former high school football players and cheerleaders also shared their personal stories about how Baskin-Robbins played a role in putting them on a successful career path.
It was a milestone that was certainly cherished by Scott Campbell, the Dunkin’ Brands franchisee of this location who is also the winner of the 2016 Combo Operator of the Year Award.
“The Garden City High School 50th reunion event at our shop in Garden City was truly an exciting day for everyone. It was great to see the Garden City community come together and honor the original crew of the first Baskin-Robbins in New York,” he said. “Garden City has played a special role in our brand’s history and we were proud to have the opportunity to celebrate our original crew members in such a special way.”
