Nassau County Police have arrested Daniel Coppolo, 31, of Deer Park, for the hit-and-run incident that killed 18-year-old Taranjit K. Parmar of Levittown. The fatal vehicular accident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 4:58 p.m. in Levittown.
Coppolo is being charged with Manslaughter 2nd degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident With Death, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree. He was arraigned on Sunday, Dec. 24, at First District Court in Hempstead.
According to detectives, Parmar was driving a 2018 Jeep traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. The vehicle was struck by a red pickup truck traveling northbound, attempting to turn eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Gardiners Lane.
After the minor collision, both operators immediately pulled off the roadway at 3300 Hempstead Tpke. While Parmar was out of her vehicle, the male subject fled the scene striking the victim and running her over. The subject fled eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.
Nassau County Police Ambulance transported the victim, who sustained trauma to the head and chest, to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased by a staff physician.
