With temperatures dipping well below freezing and snow already here, tens of thousands of New Yorkers will struggle to stay warm this winter. To help those in need, automobile dealers across Long Island are making a final plea for area residents to drop off gently worn coats at dealerships across the area in support of this year’s New York Cares Coat Drive. All the dealers involved are members of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA).
For the past five years, the association has worked with New York Cares to identify Long Island dealerships as coat collection points where residents and dealership personnel donate new and gently used coats. The association then collects the coats and delivers them to New York Cares’ distribution center in Manhattan.
“Last year, with more than 110 dealerships in NYC, Westchester, Rockland and on Long Island participating in the coat drive, GNYADA members collected 11,035 coats for people in need, our highest-ever collection total over the five years we’ve worked with New York Cares,” said GNYADA Chairman Lee Certilman. “Now, we’re asking area residents to once again join the mission to keep our neighbors warm.”
