Besides where to find the best pizza and bagels, few never-ending local culinary debates rage as fiercely as which diner on Long Island stands out from the crowded field of contenders.
As for Press readers, they declared CJ’s Coffee Shop the Best Diner on Long Island in the 2017 Best of Long Island competition — a notable win for a competitive category in the contest. CJ’s had ended a three-year winning streak by Thomas’ Ham & Eggery in Carle Place. Landmark Diner in Roslyn had won three years in a row before that.
An old-fashioned vibe, family-friendly service and maybe the best coffee for miles around combine to make CJ’s Coffee Shop a real winner in this coveted category. For breakfast, its pancakes and bacon have legions of fans, and its daily homemade lunch specials will please the wallet as much as the belly. A recent sampling included a “Blue Plate Special” quiche with a salad along with a beverage and a cup of homemade soup and a grilled chicken-avocado-melted mozzarella “Panini of the Day” spritzed with balsamic dressing and served with mac salad.
These platters won’t bust your budget—they’ll blow your mind. And after that classic cheeseburger deluxe, make sure you leave room for dessert. You’ll be glad you did!
