On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Farmingdale Fire Department was activated for a reported gas leak on the second floor of 25 Elizabeth St. Upon investigation, first due units Squad 924 and Ladder 926, found a gas fed fire from behind the stove in an apartment on the second floor. Units isolated the gas at the shut off and extinguished the kitchen fire.
Deputy Chief Ryan C. Tortoso requested multiple mutual aid companies from surrounding departments due to the length of the hose line stretch, size of the building and the amount of residential units the co-op has. There were no reported injuries and units were up in 90 minutes.
