Tower Heats It Up With Havana Nights

Tower Foundation 2018 90
Guests were all smiles during the festivities

Evoking the warmth and vibrancy of 1950s Old Havana, the Tower Foundation of Manhasset transformed Plandome Country Club into an eye-catching Cuban mise en scene for their 2018 dinner dance, Havana Nights. The fundraiser was the hottest ticket in Manhasset, selling out within 10 days. The vision of the evening took the more than 400 guests, including school administrators, out of the cold winter night and transported them back in time to the golden era of Havana’s iconic hot spot, the Tropicana Club. Revelers got into the spirit of the evening thanks to fabulous live music and elaborately costumed dancers, authentic Cuban cuisine and a distinctive hand-rolled cigar bar.

Tower Foundation 2018 478b 782x1024 1“It is a wonderful event that brings the community together for a worthy cause,” says Angelic Durante.

Incredible raffle prizes were up for grabs, as well as a stunning array of silent-auction items, including tickets to numerous unforgettable experiences such as a taping of The Voice, Justin Timberlake concert tickets and several hot Broadway shows. There was a Tesla Model S for kids or for the world traveler, a three-night stay in Athens, Greece. Proceeds from the highly successful evening will benefit Manhasset schools.

“They have the best interest of our students [in mind],”says Manhasset School Board president Regina Rule.

The Tower Foundation is in its 27th year of serving the Manhasset school community through initiatives and gifts such as the introduction of interactive SMART Boards, a comprehensive remodeling of the high school library and the implementation of the innovative zSpace 3D Interactive Labs, which are designed to greatly enhance the students’ educational experience. Micheal and Jessica Qualter support the Tower Foundation and like the focus on STEM.

“The overwhelming generosity of our sponsors, donors, benefactors and event attendees is what makes the Tower Foundation such a success,” marvels co-presidents Jodi Mondiello and Jeremy Shao. “The entire Tower Board and community are thankful for your support and shared faith and vision.”

The evening was everything that was promised and guests danced into the wee hours of the night. Havana was here, ooh la la.
