Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and members of the Yes We Can Community Center’s Summer Activities Program stopped by Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson on Friday, Aug. 3, to listen to a lecture by Manhasset Girl Scout Fiona Pilch about native bees. Pilch, a member of Troop 508, spoke particularly about the importance of Mason Bees, which are in severe decline in the North East and how to help increase their population.
For Pilch’s Gold Award project, the highest award a Girl Scout can receive, she is installing Mason Bee Houses throughout Clark Botanic Garden. These houses are known to attract and retain mason bees which are native bees to our area and are pollinators, which is why it is important to retain their population in our area.
