Back to school season is upon us and the Manhasset School Community Association’s Project Share is working to get sneakers and school supplies for students in need. The SCA’s Project Share was created when a teacher was looking for a donation of a used bicycle for a middle school student. When asked why a bike was needed in January, it became evident that the family needed much more than a bicycle and donations of gift cards, clothing and food followed. Project Share’s goal is to work in concert with school personnel who have identified students who require basic-need items.
Each year, the Munsey Park Women’s Club (MPWC) sponsors a Fun Run and Fair at Polliwog Park specifically for Project Share. The morning run was a fun-filled day with children from all over Manhasset running the one-mile race to show their support for Project Share. Participants of the Fun Run came in all sizes, starting from two- years-old to 12-years-old.
After the run concluded and trophies were given to the top three runners, the kids enjoyed a fair where racers and their families enjoyed carnival games and yummy goodies at the bake sale. The MPWC is extremely grateful to their Gold level sponsor, Americana Manhasset, as well as their other sponsors including nuBest Salon and Spa, For Five Coffee Roasters, Daniel Gale and Unlimited Sports Action.
In the past, Project Share has been able to assist more than 100 students annually by providing mattresses, clothing, back-to-school supplies and basic necessities. Project Share has worked with Raindew Family Centers and Pharmacy in the past to provide much needed back-to-school supplies.
The event was an incredible success and is providing the needed resources for the 2018-19 school year.
