In honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the Hicksville Fire Department will be holding their annual memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m. The service will be held at Station 3 on Strong Street. There will also be a dedication ceremony for the department’s new training facility. The department asks that those planning to attend the service arrive by 10 a.m.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the town will honor a Remembrance Ceremony for the victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks on America on Thursday, Sept. 6, beginning at 7 p.m. at Tobay Beach. The town board invites all residents, families and friends to attend.
“As we prepare to observe the 17th anniversary of these tragic attacks on America, it is important that we commemorate this day as the passage of time does not diminish the tragedy that our nation suffered,” said Saladino. “Together, we will pay tribute to those we lost that tragic morning as well as those who continue to pass away from 9/11 related illness. Join us in remembering these loved ones and honoring the brave heroism demonstrated by first responders who participated in rescue and recovery efforts.”
The town’s 9/11 Memorial is inscribed with the names of residents lost on 9/11. The memorial features a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center. The ceremony includes a candlelight vigil, vocal performances, bagpipe music and religious readings. In addition, the names of those lost, who are inscribed on the wall, will be read.
Among the men and women who lost their lives 17 years ago, Mark Colaio, David Grimmner, Thomas Pedicini, Nancy Bueche, Gilbert Granados, Geroge Howard, Kenneth Rice III and Brian Terrenzi were from Hicksville.
