Bowie, Cary Grant Among Dogs, Cats Up For Adoption on Long Island

pjimage (24)

There is never a shortage of adorable animals available at our local shelters and rescues, but if you can’t adopt and would like to help animals in need, the next best thing is volunteering, fostering, or donating to the wonderful organizations that help our Long Island animals.

The Nassau Country Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NCSPCA) is in great need of microchip scanners, which help humane officers identify a pet’s owner, keep track of the number of animals an owner has and if an owner has acquired any new pets. Every little bit counts, so if you can help, please check out their amazon wish list or visit nassaucountyspca.org for more info.

Cary Grant.jpb
Cary Grant

Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America:

His name says it all. Cary Grant, named for the late British actor, is a shy but sweet, friendly, affectionate, loyal, and curious, dachshund-mix and might just be the perfect blend of mellow yet playful. He’s quite the character when he turns on the charm. Cary is fully housebroken and walks well on a leash but does have a few special needs so would adapt best to a calm, quiet home where he can relax without any other small pets or young children. Potential adopters must have prior dog ownership experience.

HERCULES
Hercules

Hercules and Vesty were adopted together in 2014, but recently returned when their owners could no longer care for them. They are a lovable bonded pair looking for the perfect adopters to open their heart and their home. They are staff favorites who greet everyone that enters our kennel managers’ offices. Sweet and friendly, they need to find a home together. They would do best in a home with children 10 years and up, and responsible pet parents with dog experience.

Bowie 1
Bowie

Available for adoption at Almost Home Animal Rescue:

Bowie is described as a very sweet, very handsome 7-years-old sweetheart. He is very friendly and loves to jump on anyone that has a lap to share. Bowie came to Almost Home Animal Rescue from a hoarding situation and his fur needed to be shaved, but look at this stunning guy now, his hair is growing back beautifully! Bowie is great with people and good with other cats.

For more information about adopting Bowie, contact Almost Home Animal Rescue at www.almosthomeli.org or call 631-627-3665.

Bernie 1 1
Bernie

Available for adoption at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:

Bernie is quite the handsome 9-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who is pretty awesome, since he’s housebroken, crate trained and knows a bunch of commands like, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Get Toy and Leave It! He’s a pretty smart fella, so sky’s the limit with what this little guy is capable of. Bernie would be happiest in an adult only home only. He’s shown interest in some other dogs as well.

Roberto
Roberto

Roberto ain’t nothing but a Hound dog! He loves the sights and sounds when outside on a walk and is social and sweet with new people and even other dogs! Roberto would do best in a home with tween and up. It’s highly recommended to run, not walk down to the shelter to meet this little dude in-person to really see how amazing he is!

Midnight
Midnight

Gorgeous Midnight is a 9-year-old beauty who proves age is only a number. She is house trained, crate trained and would prefer a home with tweens and up. The only request Midnight has is to be the only dog in the house. She will promise to give you all the love you will ever need!

If you are interested in adopting Bernie, Roberto or Midnight, please call the shelter for more information at 516-785-5220, visit at: 3320 Beltagh Avenue, Wantagh or email adoption@tohmail.org

As always, thanks for reading and please remember to always adopt, never shop…pass it on!
