When Change Comes is a powerful dance musical that asks one question:
Can the act of “seeing” each other without judgment or fear break the cycle of intolerance?
Featuring a cast of world-renowned dancers, singers and musicians, When Change Comes transports audiences through a century of music, movement and human connection in the shadow of our nation’s most defining moments.
Madison Theatre at Molloy College presents the Mark Stuart Dance Theatre production on Sept. 7 and 8 with special guest appearances by Broadway’s Laura Osnes (Bandstand, Cinderella), Dan DeLuca (Newsies national tour) and Adam Kaplan (A Bronx Tale, Newsies).
Using Mark Stuart Dance Theatre’s explosive style of storytelling, When Change Comes follows three love stories set against the backdrops of the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement and the LGBTQ Rights Movement. Danced to hit standards from the 1930s, 1960s and the 2000s, the show features seven dancers, three vocalists and a five-piece band.
When Change Comes aims to inspire and empower audiences to create positive change in their communities. This theatrical experience includes a 90-minute performance followed by discussions with Mark Stuart and the cast. The discourse will focus on how individuals might commit to small everyday acts of kindness, learn to truly see each other and build empathetic dialogue about equality and tolerance.
Ultimately, the show seeks to determine if we can all turn seemingly small acts of kindness into a tidal wave of tolerance.
Laura Osnes earned a Tony Award nomination for her role as Bonnie Parker in 2011’s Bonnie & Clyde. She has had starring roles in Grease, South Pacific, Anything Goes, Bandstand and Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, for which she received a Drama Desk Award.
Osnes and DeLuca will appear in the Sept. 7 performance of When Change Comes at 8 p.m.
Adam Kaplan made his Broadway debut in 2013 in Disney’s Newsies as lead character Jack Kelly. He recently starred as Calogero opposite Academy Award-nominee Chaz Palminteri in A Bronx Tale.
Kaplan will appear in two performances on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
