At the monthly Sands Point Board of Trustees meeting on Aug. 28, the board celebrated trustee Katharine M. Ullman’s 25 years of service to the community and discussed the Village Club of Sands Point and roadwork.

Ullman was presented with a citation from the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials for her 25 years of public service to the community.

“The New York State Conference of Mayors is pleased and honored to publicly acknowledge your dedication and commitment,” said Mayor Edward A.K. Adler as he presented Ullman with the certificate.

The board approved a public hearing date of Sept. 25 to establish categories of membership fees at The Village Club of Sands Point, a resolution to engage Sisto DeNardis Contracting Corp. for golf cart path repairs at the club, the purchase of a John Deere turf brush for maintenance on the golf course and a resolution to engage Field of Greens, LLC for the fall and spring plantings at the club subject to the addition of the necessary insurance language.

“We’re bidding out the fall planting as well as the spring under planting and maintenance and mulching of current beds that are done at the club right now,” said the club’s general manager Dana Cancellaro. “So Field of Greens was the lowest bidder on the project. They’ve done all of our summer work as well and I think everyone was very impressed by what they’d done.”

“I think they’ve done a beautiful job. The club has very much improved,” added Ullman.
The board also discussed roads that will have work done for a total of $495,000 from the 2016 Road Improvements Program.

“We’re fortunate that we are continuing our roadwork, having added this past year a series of roads and private paths in Harbor Acres to our original road contract continued to be covered by bond funds specifically for roads, and we are now going to be able to extend that a bit further,” said Adler.

The roadwork is set to include milling and paving on Barkers Point Road from Sands Point Road down to Cedar Lane as the biggest expense, a small section of milling and paving on Messenger Lane from Barkers Point Road to Soundview Lane and curb replacement, milling and paving on Arden Lane from Sterling Lane to Tideway. Drainage work will be done on Dogwood Lane and Middle Road.
