Homicide Squad Detectives are investigating a fatal auto accident that occurred on Wednesday, September 12, at 1:40 pm in Port Washington.
According to detectives, a male, 71, was operating a 1978 Toyota Chinook westbound on Reid Avenue in the vicinity of Mackey Avenue. The vehicle struck the west curb on Mackey Avenue and continued until it collided with a residence.
A female, 66, was a rear passenger. She suffered a collapsed lung, broken ribs and was transported by Port Washington Fire Department to an area hospital.
The operator was transported to an area hospital by Port Washington Fire Department and pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 2:19 pm.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.
