The Hicksville Fire Department (HFD) held their annual September 11 Remembrance ceremony at the department’s Station 3 on Strong Street. All the names of the residents and victims who died tragically in the World Trade Center attacks were remembered, as well as Honorary Chief and Port Authority Police Department officer George Howard and New York City Fire Department Ex-Chief Terrence Farrell. After the remembrance ceremony, the fire department’s new training facility was dedicated in the memory of Howard, a 23-year HFD member who, on his day off from his Port Authority duties, rushed to the scene and was subsequently killed in the collapse of the North Tower while trying to save the lives of others.
In attendance for the ceremony and facility dedication, along with members of the Hicksville Fire Department, were various community officials. The new training facility will allow members to train in a realistic environment and prepare them to handle the demands firefighters routinely face on the job.
