Motorists should expect speed restrictions as overnight lane marking operations progress during the week of Monday, September 24 on Interstate 495 (Long Island Expressway) in the towns of North Hempstead & Oyster Bay in Nassau County & the towns of 
Huntington, Smithtown, Islip, & Brookhaven in Suffolk County.
Crews are slated to repaint lane markings for entrance and exit ramps at the following locations during the overnight off-peak hours of 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the following days:
- Monday & Tuesday: eastbound between exit 36 (Searingtown Road) & exit 48 (Round Swamp Road);
- Wednesday: eastbound between exit 48 & exit 52 (Suffolk County Route 4/Commack Road);
- Thursday: eastbound between exit 52 & exit 60 (Ronkonkoma Avenue);
- Friday: westbound between exit 64 (Route 112) & exit 58 (Old Nichols Road).
Speed will be reduced with ramps and travel lanes remaining open while workers repaint lane markings on the pavement. This work along the Long Island Expressway is expected to be finished next month.
Variable message signs will be alerting motorists and carrying additional details with any updates. As with most road projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
