Sandy DeMille passed away at home on Sept. 9 at age 54, after a four-year battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Tacoma, WA, to the late Robert and Joan Dillingham, Sandy graduated Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma and Regis College in Denver. She worked as a book publicist in Denver where she met her future husband, Nelson DeMille. They were married in 2007 and have one son, James.
Sandy is survived by her sisters, Jan (Patrick Vennari) and Jean (Cherylnn Pope), and her stepchildren Lauren (Gabor Halasz) and Alex (Dagmar Weaver-Madsen), her brother-in-law, Lance (DoryAnne DeMille), her sister-in-law, Lillian DeMille (Dennis, deceased), and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul and her sister, Pat.
Sandy was an extraordinary woman of grace and courage, a loving wife and mother, and a friend to all who knew her. Her smile lit up a room.
A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City, and she will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s name may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
