A house fire broken out at 920 Middle Neck Road in the village of Kings Point on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 11, according to Chief Steven Schwartz of the Great Neck Alert Fire Department.
Schwartz said a general alarm went out to Alert’s department members with a report of a house on fire at 8:52 a.m., which was received through multiple 911 calls.
“The Alert fire department was on scene at 8:55 a.m., and upon arrival called in a signal 10, due to the volume of fire observed at this time,” reported Schwartz. “A signal 10 is a call for mutual aid to respond from other departments that we have in our preplans for fire or emergency response. It enables the fire departments to receive additional firefighters and equipment agencies and EMS [Emergency Medical Services].”
Under Schwartz’s command was the Great Neck Alert Fire Department (FD), Port Washington FD, Plandome FD, New Hyde Park FD, Manhasset-Lakeville FD, Great Neck Vigilant FD, Kings Point Police Department, Nassau County Police Department, Nassau County EMS, Nassau County Fire Marshals, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Nassau County Arson/Bomb Squad, PSE&G, National Grid and Great Neck Water Authority.
“One person who was in the house was taken to the Nassau University Medical Center hospital with burns and respiratory problems, and two firefighters went to North Shore University Hospital with minor injuries to be treated and released the same day,” explained Schwartz. “The exact cause of the fire is ‘undetermined,’ but has been ruled to be ‘non suspicious.’ The investigation is still pending.”
