A fatal vehicular accident involving a pedestrian occurred in Great Neck on Monday, Nov. 26, at 6:21 p.m., according to the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad.
Detectives report that Marie A. Ortiz, 77, of Whitestone was attempting to cross from the east side to the west side of Lakeville Road, in the crosswalk at Cumberland Avenue, when she was struck by a 2017 Toyota Camry traveling south bound.
As a result of the collision, she suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead by a physician.
The 61-year-old male driver remained at the scene. He was not injured.
A brake test was conducted on the car at the scene of the accident, and the vehicle was released to the driver.
The investigation is ongoing.
