DNA evidence led to the recent arrest of a man for a burglary that occurred on July 15, 2011, at 9:36 a.m. in Great Neck, according to the Nassau County Police Department Third Squad.
Detectives report that Jose Vasquez, 27, entered an office building at 15 Bond St. by unknown means and broke into Suite 111, where he removed a security camera from the office.
DNA evidence recovered from the scene has linked Vasquez to the crime. He was located and placed under arrest without incident.
The police allege that he is homeless, though relatives say he is living with them in Great Neck and is schizophrenic, bipolar and epileptic, and he doesn’t have any medication with him. The family says that he could have a seizure while in custody.
Vasquez’s family also asserts that he is entitled to an attorney, but hasn’t been provided one. The family also claims that the statute of limitations has expired for DNA evidence, since this burglary occurred six-and-a-half years ago.
Vasquez is charged with third-degree burglary and will be arraigned on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, in First District Court in Hempstead.
