Two Special Improvement elections will occur on Tuesday, Dec. 11, as the Manhasset Park District (MPD) and the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire District will be holding their Special Improvement District Elections. David Paterson will be running for reelection to a third term with the Manhasset Park’s Department. 
Brian J. Morris will be running for reelection for a fourth term with the Manhasset Lakeville Water District. Both candidates are running uncontested. The term for each office is three years.
Paterson was originally voted into his position in 2013. He has worked diligently with the Town of North Hempstead on parking issues that plague the community. Since his election, the district has added an additional lot on Locust Street and made additional spots reconfiguring the current commuter parking lot off of Manhasset Avenue. He is a volunteer firefighter with the Manhasset Lakeville Fire Department.
Morris comes from a family of firemen and served as former chief to the MLFD (2003-2005) and is the current Chairman of the Manhasset Lakeville Water District. Morris was elected for his first time in 2009 beginning his term in January of 2010. During his tenure, the water department replaced the deteriorating 85 year-old water tower located off of Manhasset Woods Road increasing the capacity from 500,000 to 750,000 gallons.
The elections will be held at the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire House #1 located at 35 Bayview Ave. between the hours of noon and 9 p.m. The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire and Water District covers Manhasset and portions of Great Neck and North New Hyde Park.
Polling places for the election will be at four Manhasset-Lakeville firehouses: Company 1, 35 Bayview Ave., Manhasset; Company 3, 25 Prospect St.,Great Neck; Company 4, 97 Jayson Ave, Great Neck and Company 5, 21 78th Ave., New Hyde Park.
All eligible Manhasset residents are eligible to vote in both elections if they are a registered voter. Residents who are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections should have received a postcard in the mail in November indicating the polling place associated with the household address.
Plandome residents are ineligible to vote in the MPD elections.
