The Great Neck North Blazers boys’ varsity swimming team competed against Syosset High school on Tuesday, Dec. 4. This was the first meet for both teams this winter.
Each team was looking for a strong start early in the season. In the first half of the meet, the Syosset players were dominating, although the North team was still in the meet with great swims by Cocaptains Nilesh Ganguli in the 100-meter butterfly race, Jonathan Kirshner in the 200–individual medley race and Alexander Sum in the 50-freestyle race.
The Blazers fell behind in the second half of the meet, but great coaching from Coach Puca and Coach Rodriguez led North to a great effort in a difficult defeat.
The next meet will be held on Dec. 10 at Farmingdale High School.
The Great Neck winter track team competed in its first crossover meet of the season, which was held at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington.
Great races were performed by Aaron Malekan, David Ludwig and Daniel Sedgh. The next meet will be held on Dec. 13, at St. Anthony’s again.
The Great Neck North JVA boys’ basketball team played its ultimate rival this week, Great Neck South. The North team was led by Luke Hakimian, who was a great spark in the Blazers’ offense with an attacking skill set.
Coby Kadouri and John Javaheri made many baskets, which extended the North team’s lead. Nathaniel Hakim, Manuel Hakimian, Ryan Aminzadeh and Kyle Wo played fantastically on the defensive end, with Manny’s multiple rebounds, Nate’s hustle, Kyle’s superb defensive skill set, and Ryan’s great steals, which led to a great win.
