The Great Neck North Wrestling team played in the third annual Hicksville Comet Classic this past week. Some participants from the Blazers team included Ariel Arabian, who came in second place in his weight class; John Behnam, who came in first; and Liron Alishahian, who took fourth place. The Blazers wrestling team’s next match will be away on Wednesday, Dec. 19, versus Manhasset High School.
The Great Neck North varsity swimming team competed against Wantagh this past Thursday, Dec. 13. The Blazers were coming off its first win of the season and were looking to follow that same success.
Although the North side was without its top swimmers, Jonathan Kirshner and Yaron Nassir, the team was able to fight through for the win. Great swimming by Wellington Chen in the 500-meter event and Bryan Tsai in the 200–meter individual medley (IM) led the Blazers to the triumph.
The Wantagh team was granted 10 extra points, since they had divers but the Blazers did not. So, exceptional swimming by Cameron Cooper, Jonathan Hakimi, Aaron Dadfarin and Coby Kavakeb in the final 400-meter relay helped the North team seal its second win of the season. The team’s next meet will be held at home on Tuesday, Dec. 18, versus a division opponent, Oceanside.
