James Pizaro, a senior at Division Avenue High School in the Levittown Public Schools, was honored by the Boys Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout during his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Jan. 8. An Eagle Scout is the highest ranking bestowed on a member of the Boy Scouts of America and requires a specific amount of merit badges, including a service project.

Pizaro is the junior assistant scoutmaster of Levittown’s Troop 316 and recently finished his Eagle Scout Community Service Project, serving the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood. His project, a new table and pavilion for the Sisters of Saint Joseph Brentwood community garden, will not only serve the convent but the entire Brentwood Community.

“The reason why I chose to do this project is because the garden helps the entire community,” said Pizaro. “Often, the harvest and fresh eggs would be out in the open, ruined by rain or birds.”

The pavilion was designed to protect the harvest and eggs, allowing the Sisters of Saint Joseph to donate more to the community. After one year of hard work and raising more than $3,500 to complete his project, Pizaro was able to present the new table and pavilion to the community in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 28. In addition, he presented the Sisters with a check for $2,183, a very charitable donation.
