Volunteer registration is now open for the 2019 PGA Championship—one of golf’s four major tourneys—to be held May 13-19, 2019, at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in Farmingdale.
It will be the first PGA to be held on Long Island since 1939 and the first since 1949 to be played in May. PGA of America officials are encouraging all interested volunteers to register exclusively through the online registration system by visiting www.PGA.com/2019Volunteer.
All volunteer positions will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Interested parties should sign up now to ensure placement on their preferred committee.
“Individuals who volunteer for the 2019 PGA Championship will also be granted an advanced opportunity to register as a volunteer for the 2024 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, ahead of the general public,” said 2019 PGA Championship Director Scott Reid. “Given the international appeal of the Ryder Cup, volunteering for next year’s PGA Championship will be the only way to guarantee access to what should be one of the toughest tickets in New York sporting event history.”
To be eligible, adult volunteers must be 22 years of age or older and pay a $175 fee that helps offset the cost of the volunteer uniform package, which includes two Ralph Lauren golf shirts, an outerwear piece and headwear item. Other volunteer benefits include volunteer credential providing access for all seven days of the Championship, official volunteer drawstring backpacks, food and water vouchers to use at on-course concession stands, an official commemorative 101st PGA Championship program, complimentary parking, one-time discount at the Championship Shops and preferred registration for the 2024 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black (must complete all assigned shifts to be considered).
Adult volunteers are required to work at least four, four-hour shifts leading up to and during the week of the event, allowing them to enjoy the rest of the Championship in their free time.
A limited number of junior volunteer opportunities are also available exclusively through the online registration page at PGA.com/2019Volunteer. Junior volunteer applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 21 at the time of the 2019 PGA Championship. Junior volunteers will be required to work three shifts during the week of the Championship, and as part of the PGA of America’s commitment to junior golf, there is no uniform fee charge.
Positions available to junior volunteers include working various scoreboards and serving as standard bearers that walk with each group of players to display their scores.
Of the 20-plus volunteer committees, some of the most popular include championship shops, leaderboards and through bards, laser operators, on-course marshals and transportation.
