Division Avenue High School hosted the Nassau East Regional Science Olympiad Tournament on Feb. 2, where Science Olympiad teams from Division Avenue High School and General Douglas MacArthur High School competed with more than 600 students from 19 schools throughout Nassau County.

Science Olympiad members from Division Avenue High School earned medals in 16 of 23 events and qualified for the Science Olympiad C Division State Tournament for the eleventh consecutive year.

The two Science Olympiad teams from General Douglas MacArthur High School also had a great run during the tournament, medaling in 13 of 26 events and coming in 9th and 15th place overall. The ninth-place MacArthur team was only two spots away from advancing to the state tournament.

The regional tournament consisted of 26 science events such as Boomilever, Disease Detective, Forensics, Mission Possible, Sounds of Music and more. The schools that qualified in the regional competition were extended an invitation to the Science Olympiad C Division State Tournament from March 15-16 at Le Moyne College.
