The story of fashion student-turned-lawyer Elle Woods comes to the Seaford High School stage as the Drama Club presents “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” on Feb. 28, March 1 and 2.

A cast of 45 students star in the production based upon the 2001 theatrical comedy. Sophomore Gabriella Philipp, making her musical debut, plays the lead character. Junior Liam McDonald portrays Elle’s love interest, Emmett. Other lead roles include Melissa Schoenig as Paulette, Meredith Muirhead as Vivienne, Andrew Calvacca as Professor Callahan, Max Newman as Warner, Jessie Kofod as Brooke and Eric Schneider as Kyle.

Cast members, who have been rehearsing since late November, say the show has positive messages about empowerment, kindness, loyalty and persistence. They noted it is a modern, high-energy and funny show that is well known because of the movie.

“It’s not too serious, but it’s serious when it needs to be,” McDonald said.

Added Philipp, “The show is so empowering. Everyone can relate to Elle somehow because everyone has felt like the underdog at some point.”

Not as well-known will be the musical numbers, including “What You Want,” “Positive,” “Oh My God, You Guys,” and “Whipped into Shape.”

The show is directed and choreographed by Samantha Gates Weber. The musical director is Gina Salvia, the set designer is Grant Weber, the pit conductor is Christopher Coniglio, the producer is Anthony Romeo, the sound designer is Dan Krueger, the lighting crew adviser is Joseph Poretti and the costume designer is Suzanne Gates.

Show times are Friday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $10 for students and $12 for adults. There is a free performance for senior citizens and scouts only on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.
