The proposed 2019–20 Great Neck Public Schools (GNPS) budget vote will be on Tuesday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Preliminary Budget
Copies of the preliminary budget are available at the Office of the District Clerk, Phipps Administration Building, 345 Lakeville Rd., on school days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., www.greatneck.k12.ny.us and budget meetings. Reference copies may be perused in all public schools and branches of the Great Neck Library.
Budget Meetings
Budget meetings are scheduled during March, April and May, with weekday meetings following student recognitions, which begin at 7:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend. Firm decisions on the budget will not be made until the board listens to the community’s comments at the following meetings.
• An informal budget hearing will take place on Monday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at North High, 35 Polo Rd.
• A discussion with staff and the public will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 9:30 a.m. at South High, 341 Lakeville Rd.
• An informal budget hearing will be held on Monday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at South High, 341 Lakeville Rd.
• The official budget hearing and adoption will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at North Middle, 77 Polo Rd.
• A discussion will take place on Monday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. at South Middle, 349 Lakeville Rd.
Voting Rights Act
GNPS strives to provide budget information, so residents can make informed decisions and exercise their right to vote in the annual election.
Section 203 of the federal Voting Rights Act requires Nassau County school districts to provide election information in English and Spanish, and print materials will be distributed in both languages. Voter Registration
Residents who have voted in any school or general election since 2015 are automatically registered to vote in the school election on May 21. Residents who have not voted since 2015, or are not registered, may register at the Office of the District Clerk on school days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Thursday, May 16. Residents must be 18 or older, a citizen of the United States and have lived in the district for at least 30 days.
Absentee Ballots
Registered voters can obtain applications for absentee ballots from the district website or the district clerk on school days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Qualified voters whose registration records have been marked “permanently disabled” by the Board of Elections will automatically receive absentee ballots. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the district clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.
Election Districts
The four polling locations for school elections are E.M. Baker, Lakeville, Saddle Rock and South High schools. Voters can only cast a ballot at their assigned polling location.
