Sylvia Meyers, a senior a Division Avenue High School from the Levittown Public Schools, recently had her writing piece featured in HBO’s Inspiration Room, an exhibit in New York City. The week-long exhibit which supported female empowerment and equality, displayed real stories from different women across the country.
Meyers’ submission reflected a difficult time that she had gone through and how that experience impacted her. The main focus of her piece though was the moment when she realized things were not as awful as they were.
Upon seeing her piece displayed at the exhibit among the other powerful stories, Meyers was both pleased and grateful for the opportunity.
“I wanted to be a part of this exhibit, just because I felt that it was a really personal, soul-baring piece that I wanted to share with others (albeit anonymously),” she said. “I had a chance to have something I made touch other people’s hearts and that’s the best thing a writer can hope for.”
The district congratulated Meyers on her outstanding achievement and for bravely sharing her story with the world.
