If the Levittown community is missing anything, it’s an assisted living facility located in the heart of suburbia. Come November, that will change as Village Green Senior Living opens its doors.

“The builders are very proactive in the community,” Michael Cooper, director of sales and marketing at Village Green Senior Living, said. “This community is not only having a memory care neighborhood and traditional assisted living, since we have an enhanced license, we can increase our scope of practice within the community.”

Village Green will be managed by Life Care Services (LCS), which supports a variety of senior living communities across the country. Located at 100 Schoolhouse Rd., the property is owned by D&F Development Group, which is also headquartered on the property.

The location is the site of a former bowling alley. There are other assisted living facilities in Levittown’s neighboring areas, but none inside of the Levitt community. The creation of Village Green is the latest as Long Island’s need for this type for community continues to grow.

“I think it’s fitting to have an intimate community in Levittown because it is an intimate community,” Cooper said. “The set-up of the community, as it is now, fits the neighborhood to a tee.”

There will be 103 beds at the facility. It will employ about 60 or so people when it opens, with plans to hire more workers after a few years of operation.

“That type of job creation, especially on Long Island, is a big deal,” he said. “It’s something the community needs. We have an aging population.”

The U.S. Census Bureau, on July 1, 2018, reported that 16.3 percent of people in Levittown are 65 or older. For those who are aging, this is an option to get away from the hefty taxes of being a home owner and enjoy retirement, Cooper said.

Village Green will have plenty of activities for residents, and they will also have transportation available when needed. The assisted living center will even have restaurant-style dining, making residents feel as independent as possible. Additionally, there will be a 24-hour bistro open for snacks and something to nosh on.

D&F Development Group will keep its main offices at the Levittown location.

“There will be a library, computer lab and a workout room,” Cooper said. “We’ll also focus on physical therapy and occupational therapy there.”

The extensive therapy room will also be available for those on Medicare. However, this is exclusive for residents and is not available as an outpatient facility for those who need rehabilitation services.

Thus far, there has been quite a bit of interest from the local community, Cooper explained. There have already been several people who have put down deposits, and more are expected as the opening approaches.

“There have been quite a few built on the north shore, there aren’t many on the south shore or the middle of the island,” Cooper said.

A large part of the Village Green will be its extensive recreation department. It will include a theater, a creative arts studio, a pub and more.
Construction on the Village Green started earlier this year and it is set to officially open in November. To find out how to join the assisted living community, those interested can call 516-271-2500.
