Anton Media Group earned recognition from its peers in the world of journalism last night at the Press Club of Long Island’s (PCLI) 2019 Media Awards. Taking home nine awards, Anton’s talented group of journalists and designers got their chance to shine once again.
Barbara Barnett, Cathy Bongiorno and Kevin Schmidt swept the entire Front Page Layout category respectively with covers for Long Island Island Weekly, Levittown Tribune and Great Neck Record.
Cathy Bongiorno also earned 3rd place in the Infographic category for her 100-year timeline of St. Brigid/Our Lady of Hope school in Westbury.
On the editorial side, Steve Mosco won 2nd place in the Food and Beverage category for his LIW article “The Burger Files” in which he sorted local burger joints into the best, the worst and the rest.
Kimberly Dijkstra earned 2nd place for her Travel piece “Traversing Vermont.” She also won 1st place for Best Website Home Page Design, along with web developer Jim Sabellico, for longislandweekly.com.
Elizabeth Johnson, Steve Mosco and Andrea Bilton jointly won 2nd place for their Breaking News story about a prominent Manhasset couple who died tragically in a plane crash.
Finally, following significant wins at both the New York Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest and Fair Media Council’s FOLIO awards, Port Washington News Magazine won 3rd place at PCLI. The acclaimed magazine is helmed by Senior Editor Jennifer Fauci and Creative Director Alex Nuñez, with contributions from the entire Anton staff.

The 2019 PCLI Media Awards dinner was held on June 6 at The Watermill in Smithtown. Hundreds of journalists joined together to celebrate the best in print, television and radio, as well as award scholarships to students and recognize trailblazers in the field. CBS/AP producer Pat Milton, News 12 Long Island anchor Carol Silva and Newsday photographer J. Conrad Williams Jr. were inducted into the PCLI Hall of Fame.
