Recently, the village of Floral Park and New Hyde Park had the unlucky fortune of becoming victims of a couple of bank robberies within the past week.
According to detectives within the Nassau County Police Department, at 10:38 a.m. in North New Hyde Park on May 31, David Freeland of Huntington Station entered the TD Bank located at 110 Hillside Ave., while wearing a face mask. Freeland displayed a handgun and announced a robbery was taking place and demanded money from a teller. Freeland pointed the handgun at the teller who complied with his demand. Freeland then fled the bank eastbound on Hillside Avenue to an awaiting silver Hyundai Accent that was driven by Stephanie Boehringer of Patchogue.
Officers responded to the area and the car was located at New Hyde Park Road and Lawrence Street. Freeland, was placed under arrest while Boehringer, was ordered out of the vehicle, placed in handcuffs and arrested by a Nassau County police recruit, with the assistance of his field training officer. The recruit is due to graduate the academy in the near future.
Freeland, is charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree criminal use of a firearm. Boehringer, is charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree criminal use of a firearm. Both were arraigned on, June 1, at First District Court, 99 Main St. in Hempstead.
Meanwhile in Floral Park at another TD Bank on June 2, around 11:50 a.m., Rajiv P. Ramjas, of Queens Village, entered the TD Bank located at 372 Jericho Tpke., approached the teller and passed a note demanding money. The teller complied and Ramjas fled with an undisclosed amount of money on foot through the parking lot. Ramjas was arrested a short time later in Queens Village. There were seven employees and two customers inside the bank at the time of the robbery. There were no reported injuries.
Ramjas is charged with third-degree robbery and was arraigned on June 3, at First District Court in Hempstead.
