Division Avenue High School junior Leah Draluck and General Douglas MacArthur High School junior Julia Gizzo were recently presented with the Rensselaer Medal Award for academic excellence in math and science. The award, provided by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, grants both students with a $25,000 per year college scholarship, guaranteed for four years if they choose to enroll at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. It can also be extended into a fifth year for graduate school.

The Rensselaer Medal is presented to distinguished high school juniors each year to recognize their academic achievement and to motivate students toward careers in science, engineering and technology. After graduation, Draluck plans to major in either electrical engineering or physics, while Gizzo has her sets sight on becoming a biomedical engineer.

The district congratulated both students on this great achievement.
