Island Trees High School and J. Fred Sparke Elementary School were honored as “Recognition Schools” by the New York State Department of Education for high achievement and performance under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
These schools were identified as such because they are among the top achievers under ESSA for performance, growth and other measures student achievement. According to the NYSED press release, 562 schools (public and charter) were identified as “Recognition Schools” statewide. With 4,779 public and charter schools in New York, this places our schools in the top 12 percent of high performing schools under ESSA.
